Great piece on 4 cylinder Volvo vs V6 Ford.

I'll just add that I think the V6 is the most civilised of the 
engines (I've driven) fitted to the older Marcoses (the V8 Mustang 
engine fitted to the latest Mantises takes some beating).

I've not driven the Volvo 6 or 4 or the Triumph 6, but both these 
sixes should have the edge on the Ford for smoothness, being 
straights rather than Vs.

The Ford 4 cylinder I drove was more immediate in response than the 
V6 (it, however, was tuned and had a short shift gearchange), but it 
was quite coarse and much noisier. I'd expect the Volvo 4 to be 
similar, given it's vintage.

I also think that the Rover V8 is less smooth than the V6 and a 
number of V8 owners have commented on the 'nice sound' my car makes 
(Well, when it's going :^)).

Any chance someone could scan me a copy of the article when it 
appears?
