Turned out beautiful Mike! What made you decide to go with red on the back as opposed to the original black? The first picture is the original picture of the rear end with the taillights removed. Next to the original picture is a picture of the rear end completely painted. Notice any difference? The third picture is of the rear end from the side after painting. The previous owner said he had painted the Marcos with the same red as a 1997 Ford Thunderbird but research showed that none of the 1990's Thunderbirds had a color anywhere close to the actual color of the Marcos. So I had the paint matched using one of the paint matching machines at the local Automobile paint vendors. I was concerned because I had heard differing views concerning the ability of the machine to get the exact color match. Well, the color they provide me is very close if not exact. I had to take a flat panel (the trunk lid) down to the shop and they put this hand held scanner against the panel and pushed the button. Then they mixed the paint to the formula determined by the scanner. The scanning process took about 10 minutes with the majority of time being used to calibrate the machine. The actual scanning took probably less than a minute. We painted the rear end on Saturday and it was raining and the wind was blowing which isn't the best time to be painting. We painted the rear end inside the hanger on the car lift. I took some 6 mil plastic and taped it to the car lift poles making a paint booth of sorts. We opened the hanger door a crack and used an electric fan to suck the air out. When I primed the rear end I didn't do this and ended up with overspray on the car past the point where I had protected the car with paper which has given me another project that I didn't need i.e. removing the overspray. Wednesday I will put the taillights back on. Overall I am please with the outcome of this project. None of the project was particularly hard but you can see from the photos that there were a lot of steps. I could have done the project in a lot less steps if I had wanted to put more fiberglass on at each point in the process. I chose to limit the amount of fiberglass I applied each time so the project would evolve more gradually and wouldn't get out of control. Took a lot longer but I never had the feeling that I didn't have control and knew precisely what the next step would be. There is something to be said for being able to "sleep at night". By Friday I will post the final pictures of this project and will be off to other things. Mike Denman 1966 Marcos 1800 Chassis # 4079 Yahoo!
