I think Donny lang is installing that in his car. You might want to talk to him.
What was wrong with the rear end you took out? I need a crown and pinion set for my salisbury diff.

Hi everyone!

I am trying to fit a TRIUMPH TR8 Rear axle to a 1969 MARCOS 3L V6 Wooden chassis.
The existing unit was a Salisbury with 3.58:1 gear ratio and removable Axle Shaft Hubs.
The TR8 unit still a Salibury with 3.08:1 gear ratio but of a different design with hubs incorporated in the Axle Shaft.
It is 57.25" wide (taken from face of drums) and 2" longer from centerline of tubes to face of input flange. Flange has same bolt circle and diameter.
It is definitely bigger than the existing unit.

Does anyone remember what the width of the original unit might be- face of drum to face of drum?

I had taken all those measurements before taking the old unit apart but lost the information. I know it is 52.6825" wide tube flange to tube flange.

Does anyone have experience with this swap?
;
I have already fabricated new attachment brackets for the suspension.
The rear fenders are already flared and wheels (steel 10" wide) have a 1.875" negative offset (3.4375" back space). I count on changing the back space to accommodate the extra width of the new rear axle.
;
Thank you all!

Regards,

Pat Emery

Bob, Mike S., Michael C., Andy, Kurt, Larry and the rest of you maniacs out there,

This weekend at VIR was an exciting event for me and my family made great not only by the wonderful assembly of 6 varied Marcos, but more importantly by you, a fantastic group of new friends that we hope to see more of in the future. It didn't hurt that we had a little something in common, but a nicer group of people you couldn't find.
I'm sorry I missed the big shot with all the cars (5 instead of 6) but I'm sure when Bob saw me coming he said "Hay, there's Dave...lets go hide from him!" Just kidding Bob.

For all the maniacs out there, events like this are truely worthwhile goals for completing the renovation or those last minute details that have been keeping you from getting back on the road.
Andy's gullwing, 2006/H00 144 is so unique and so painstakenly restored it is truly a thing of beauty...and he's out sliding it across the asphalt at 9500 rpm's...crazy. I'm so glad that the gullwing is back where it belongs. Kurt Bissel had his silver '68 prototype steel chassis aluminum V8, believed to be one of two made by the factory to sort out the steel chassis and test the V8. None of us knew this car was around and Kurt, from Connecticut, knew nothing about the marcos maniacs. The deep throated sound it made on the track was so impressive and we'll follow Kurt's success in the future. Bob Magnotti, came down from Roanoke Virginia with his grabber blue wooden chassis #5179 1600 crossflow that he drives as much as he can. Bob has that Vulcan engine tuned so well it flew around the track when "team Marcos" went out on parade laps. Michael Crews pulled in on Saturday in his bright yellow 3V 5613 with automatic trans and air conditioning. He had drivn the car 4 hours from Princeton West Virginia. Michael brought with him his authentic Marcos factory racing suite as well as an incredible amount of Marcos literature and other Marcos goodies. He is a great enthusiast with a really neat car. Mike Sullivan came to VIR with the megacamper, his lovely wife Linda, his kids, three dogs and oh yes, #8513, his '85 silver blue Mantula with the aluminum V8...a real beauty with lots of horses that he drives to many shows around his home near Virginia Beach. I brought 5101, my wooden chassis 1600 crossflow w/ T9 5 speed, fresh from completion of my 2 year restoration at about noon on Friday!(well, maybe 90% complete. I'll never really be finished)
I can't wait to do this event again next year but would really like to get back together with you exceptional people before that. Let's think of an excuse or find another venue to crash.
I hope the 50 year of Marcos event this August in England is as well attended as VIR was by Marcos on the East Coast of the US (%Marcos@VIR/ Marcos in Eastern US vs. %Marcos@50th/ Marcos in Europe)
Regards to all. Pictures to follow.

Pictures do not do it justice, great color choice by the way. Thank you Andy for bringing it to the VIR Gold Cup and re-introducing the Marcos race heritage.

Thank you for taking the time. As a group we all looked great. I believe we stopped foot traffic in the paddock when all the cars were arranged oldest to newest.
