If you import a Marcos (as was
suggested in an earlier email), you may wish to bring the car into the US
without the engine. This reduces taxes and import requirements. Then
you have to repower and move through the registration process (in most states
you are classified as a hot rod). I've looked into this, but in CA the
registration process is real hard, although one member in our group in LA
did this when he returned for England with his Marcos.
I've been told the import per
the Fed has to be a 1971 or earlier. When I was looking into this I,
needed to clear the Fed Gov to bring the car parts (car with no engine) into
CA. Then the registration in CA is based on the engine numbers, all
emissions equipment and test results then are build around that engine. In
CA this buts you back in a 1972 or earlier engine before things start to get
real complex.
Best of luck I've owned 5916T
since 1975 and the car is still very high on the fun-performance/cost
curve!
Thanks
