Hi Ron When I restored the frame on my Marcos the rear end was stripped down and had new bearings put in it , I probably got them from the same place as you, on Woody Rd in Oakville ,right? I think the reason for a seal is so that any rear end oil that might find its way to the end of the axle tube does not get out and all over the brakes.......the bearings I got did not have a lip seal but were a tight fit also, I don't think gear oil could get by them Cheers Dave#5577 --- In MarcosManiacs@yahoogroups.com, ronald.mcleod@a... wrote: > Maniacs . . . > > I don't know whether anyone can help me on this, but here goes. > > The rear axle on my Mantis is from (I was told) a 1970 German Ford Capri 3 > litre.
