The poll

2002-10-09 by Don Lattimer

My, what a lively evening! My turn I guess.

Having now had my 1971 V6 RHD for about 16 months, yes I can jump in
and drive it whenever I please including work but do I want to?
After replacing almost everything rubber and anything to do with
stopping, my car is at a point that I can "trust" it for a 5-600
mile weekend. When I get home there will be time set aside to
thoroughly go over the car to find any "new" problems. There are
always 1 or 2 but that is what I enjoy, fixing "stuff". I don't
need to depend on it the following morning to get me 30 miles to
work and back.

I would rather keep the car for weekend excursions and keep it
looking nice than to get door dings, etc. by driving it to work.
When it's gone, there aren't many others, so preserving mine is of
utmost importance.

I would echo both Ron and Mike.

How many miles have I put on the car in those 16 months of weekend
driving?? 11,000+!!

How many hours of maintenance, upgrades, repairs, diagnosis, waiting
for parts from the UK, etc. in those 16 months?? Suffice it to say
I am single and while I own the Marcos, I'll probably remain
single. I wanted it, I got it, I made some sacrifices, and it is
one of the better decisions of my life! There is not much that
compares to driving a Marcos in the USA. Next weekend I'll be going
again with the AutoZotica (www.autozotica.com ) folks on a 100 mile
ride thru Mike's area. These folks drive cars worth up to millions
of dollars, including new Lamborghinis', Ferraris, Maseratis, etc.
My $8000 gem gets the lions share of stares, attention, and I just
love answering the question: "What's that worth??" To me, it's
priceless!! Happy hunting.
