Paul, Just talked to the factory and the inserts are NOT stainless. He said they have been on the market since '97 and they have had no complaints or returns due to disintegration. Said that they probably have the same life as a muffler. For me here in California, it's not really a concern because I try not to drive in the wet, and don't drive it in the winter months. When I do drive it I make sure the ride lasts long enuf to dissipate any condensation that could form rust.
