Eagle Software

2005-05-30 by Earl T. Hackett, Jr.

Can someone direct me to a good guide to the Eagle software package. It looks like it is very capable, but the information provided by eagle leaves a lot to be desired. I'm looking for really basic information - for example, are the red circuit lines the component side or the solder side? I can't find the answer to that anywhere in the manual, tutorial, or help files. I think I can figure out how to establish the design rules, but if someone could save me a few hours digging around in the software it would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Red is top, click the layers button and look at the color guide. Download
the seperate 4.xx PDF tutorial from the site and go through it. Expect about a
weeks worth of spare time to do that, well worth it. The old tutorials sucked
but from 4.xx it's been much better.

The program is very good once you have learned your way around. Heck there
are many other viewing programs I wish would use the mouse for zoom after using
Eagle..

Hi,

The book "Build Your Own Printed Circuit Boards" by Al
Williams (ISBN 007142783X) may be helpful to you.
It's available from Amazon.com. In this book,
Williams covers the steps necessary to design circuit
boards using the evaluation version of Eagle.

If you're an experienced board designer, this book may
be too basic. However, if you're just getting started
doing board design and also new to Eagle, this book
may be just the guide you're seeking, and it's
reasonably priced.

Anyone besides myself using/used PCB which is a opensource
layout program?

Look under the top, it's probably right under the middle layer...

I don't use Eagle any more, don't remember the options, but check if your
PCB is set to single side. If it is, don't bother trying to find the bottom
layer.
