Double-sided PCB success!

Double-sided PCB success!

2004-12-29 by leon_heller

I've just made my first double-sided PCB using conventional UV
exposure with double-sided resist-coated board material. Front and
back registration aren't perfect, but the board is quite usable. I
made a sort of envelope of the two transparencies and stuck it down
to both sides of the board (cut oversize) using some masking tape.
One side was exposed first to the UV, and the board and artwork
turned over for the second side exposure. Artwork was printed 1:1
onto tracing paper using a laser printer.

It's a simple microprocessor system using an ATmega8535 AVR in the
QFP package with SMT parts, except for the connectors and one
capcitor. All the components are on the top of the board, as are most
of the tracks, with a few tracks on the underside. I'll post a couple
of photos when I've got it assembled.

It's not really my first home-made double-sided PCB. I made quite a
complex one many years ago by painting the tracks on both sides of
double-sided PCB material with cellulose paint.
