Similar to my other post I need some jumper posts on my SMT board. Are there SMT mounting jumper pins? I'll them for changing some options as well as plugging in a ISCP connector for PIC reprogramming. 100mil centers for now. tnx jtm

Hello, This one's easier. YES. They are available from any of the larger suppliers. The "legs" splay so they can have good mechanical attachment to the SMT board. Ballendo -- In Homebrew_PCBs@yahoogroups.com, "mdgolfbum" <jim@j...> wrote:

You can get SMT jumper pins but you have to consider that they do not have the mechanical strength of a through hole part. They'll probably be fine for jumpers where they're not changed very often but probably would not be suitable for ICSP as the stress of plugging and unpluging the cable as well as pull on the cable while it's connected will probably break the joint. It might be acceptable if the ICSP is designed for firmware upgrading once or twice during the life of the product but generally through-hole would be recomended. Digikey has a variety of SMT headers but you probably won't find too much with .100mil centers. Paul Davis ----- Original Message ----- From: mdgolfbum <jim@...> Date: Tuesday, March 30, 2004 8:31 am

I think they are kind of standard like the 2,54mm pitch headers... smaller connectors need smaller force to pull off, so smd seems fine... there are also very nice connectors for the etched cables, they will open and release the cable if you pull upwards.
