Toner Transfer - Large boards?

Toner Transfer - Large boards?

2004-01-18 by Tony Harris

Ok,

I've looked thru the list a bit, and in the files section and in the links
section, but I haven't found any good info on this.

For smaller boards, I have no problem - as long as the entire board can fit
under the iron. Once I do a larger board where I need to lift and shift the
iron from one portion to another, I seem to have a problem with either
nothing staying hot enough, or not proper lengths of time with heat applied
to various areas.

Is there anyone that can offer my some advice on using a hand iron to
transfer a larger PCB??

On the odd occasions when I've used TT I've got better results by preheating
the board with the iron before applying the paper so how about preheating
the board in an oven?

That's an interesting idea. I'm not sure how I'd make it work tho since
it's a two sided board with alignment holes already drilled into the pcb.
Although, I guess if I can get the paper aligned before hand, I can just
re-position my pcb on my mill to align with the markings for the holes....

I was almost thinking of looking for something metal (like two pieces of
cast iron and sandwiching the board between them and putting the whole think
in the oven. I guess like a poor mans tshirt press hehe)

I wonder what temp to bring it to tho....

Leon,

I decided to just go and get a laminator, and it has worked well for
my larger boards (and my smaller ones:) And works great for 2 sided.
