What's really scarey is that I used to work on the old Nike Hercules
surface to air missiles. Their guidance systems had circuit boards that
all used eyelets. Can you imagine a missile going 2000 mph and an eyelet
giving out?

Yep, but they only have to work once. ;') Plus I'll bet quality
control is a lot better than for consumer stuff.

A good mechanical connection is the first part of a good rocket-worthy
solder connection, that's probably why they used eyelets. However, I
think in consumer stuff it's just a convenience and they rely on the
solder to make the connection, because I've noticed many an eyelet
that was loose when desoldering it.
