Chinese-made reflow soldering ovens

Chinese-made reflow soldering ovens

2017-10-08 by Dave M

Anyone have any experience or have colleagues who have experience using the Chinese-made reflow soldering ovens such as those being sold on the evil auction place?  The one I've looked at is item number:262955348183 (Model T962).

My eyes have become the major challenge to producing the one- or two-off projects, since many of the parts that are available today are only made in SMD packages.   I realize that placing them onto the board still remains a challenge, but at least with a proper oven, I won't have to hold a soldering iron steady enough to build the boards.

This model seems to be big enough to handle all the boards that I want to make, so that is a plus.  Just wondering if this model produces good boards with no unsoldered areas, damaged components, etc.  If it can consistently produce good boards, I'll take a chance on one of them.  Reading the Chinglish instructions is scary enough , but maybe I can figure it out well enough to make it work.

Hope someone can give good advice

Another repair shop I know modified a toaster oven , but it will
only accommodate boards up to about 12 inches long.

Apparently the T962 requires more work than just plugging it in:

I dont know why people still opt for poor Chinese products anymore. If u
have to modify it anyhow,
may as well find an old toaster oven at goodwill and modify it. At least the
money stays local here in the USA,
otherwise it goes to China to help produce more junk that occupies all our
landfills.

I have a T962A. Preferred the 'A' version as it has a much bigger 'usable' area, but the price difference is significantly bigger now than it was when I bought mine several years ago.

Yes, there are some things that you must do to make it safe, and many other things that you can do to make it better than it's 'as shipped' form. But in the end I think it was less work and functions better than the toaster oven that I was originally using.

Just my opinion,
Arvid

Can you list the mods you have done to the T962A?

Thank you
Gene

Very trusting of China.

Perhaps too much.

If they are given lieniency to claim they are sending a toaster oven and
there is a hand grenade inside ready to
go off when its plugged in, would that be acceptable?

I mean , really, it just takes a little bit of work to diffuse the
explosive, whats the problem?
