Toner transfer works !!

Toner transfer works !!

2003-12-28 by Deepinder Singh

Hi All,

Just wanted to drop a note of thanks for guiding me onto the toner
transfer method. It is definitely better in resolution than my plotter.
I did have a lot of frustration with the method initially using an iron.
I got a laminator from Staples and things are really good now :) So I
was wondering if people had tried using a fuser assembly from an old
discadred laser printer or a potocopy machine. It seems a bit of a
ripoff paying 129 for a simple laminator when I paid 159 for the new
laser printer !

How many watts is that laminator and what was the size of board you
tested the laminator with?

Re: [Homebrew_PCBs] Toner transfer works !!

Hi!

Great to hear you have good results too.
I also abandoned the plotter method completely.

The fuser:
I have a fuser of a photocopier lying around for some time now.
It has a 800watt heating quartz lamp. The aluminium roller which gets hot
is rather thickwalled, about 5mm.
(The roller in my laser printer is 1,5 to 2mm so i was surprised.)

The temperature control circuit of the copier i can't use. So i would have
to build my own.
Also the transport motor is in the copier. It is only one motor and a bunch
of pulleys and belts
for the whole printing unit. So you see rather complicated to use that (it
is a brushless motor and i don't
know if i can use the controller)

For testing i planned to hook the heater up at a variac and adjust the
temperature myself until it is ok.
The unit has a hand wheel to drive the rollers (paper jam) so that could be
used for testing too.

The reason why i haven't used it yet:
My ironing works nicely.

If anyone plans to buy a laminator and wants to know if the fuser works ask
and i will test
it, but for my useage the test is suspended until i get sick of ironing.

[Homebrew_PCBs] Two new Databases for Toner Transfer

2003-12-28 by Stefan Trethan

Hi!

I have added two more databases for the Toner Transfer Method.
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Homebrew_PCBs/database>
One for Papers and one for Printers/Toner.

PLEASE use it. it can spare others bad results and unnessesary work.
If there are questions/suggestions please write.

I have set the edit/delete to moderator and myself only.
This is not because i don't trust you ;-) but more because there are some
funny guys
out there which may find it amusing to mess around with the database.
Also it prevents accidental deleting of entries (or the complete database).

If you make a mistake with a entry and want to change it please write a
mail.
To me directly (no need to write to the list) or to Steve.
You can just add another entry with the corrrect data and tell me which one
to delete
or you can write up where the error is and i change it for you.

And please add your group use name or email to the last field in each entry
to allow for questions.

PLEASE, PLEASE use the databases. the url is (again):
<http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Homebrew_PCBs/database>

Please aso use the link section.

A post here to inform us about working paper/printer or about a good url is
very nice
but PLEASE preserve it in the appropriate sections.
There are so many posts, it is just too hard to find the right one again.

Thank you

Stefan
