GBC H200 parts list PDF crashes my PC

GBC H200 parts list PDF crashes my PC

2016-12-29 by Rob

I just had a really sucky round robyn of PDF problems that I never ran
into before.

Jim P sent me a 1.6 MB PDF file
that he got off the web and I'm sure some of you tried to use it...seems
to be in multiple places....

http://www.mybinding.com/media/manuals/gbc_ds_95p_parts_list.pdf

and when I go to that URL is does display just fine in my browser.... in
it does some graphic
animation printing where each letter in the title below prints one at a
time with a delay:
GBC DOCUSEAL 95P / HEATSEAL H-200 LAMINATOR

BUT
if I save that PDF to local hard drive and try to display it ....
it locks up my PC.

So I found a workaround where I converted it into JPG and took PDF out
of the equation all together:
http://www.learnmorsecode.com/laminator/gbc/index.html

That sucked.

I've had times when the PDF reader is damaged, for whatever reason.

Go to programs, then highlight the acrobat reader, then highlight the
program, and then pick repair. It may help.

WOW
Damaged?
What damages PDF readers on LINUX MINT?

and this option to PICK REPAIR
when did that become part of user options on any operating system?

No, windows. that ought to explain much.

apparently I missed the part about Linux. The program can still be
damaged any number of ways, either default settings or code mutation.
It is possible, but how likely will depend on any number of things.

I've had OS upgrades break things, also some program installations
will mutate common files that may or may not be compatible with other
programs using these files.

It's variably available on Windows, at least on 8/8.1
Windows has backup copies of the install files on some programs, and
can effectively refresh the working copies of programs in some cases.
Adobe Acrobat reader can do this.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
