[Homebrew_PCBs] Other printers for DLP

[Homebrew_PCBs] Other printers for DLP

2014-10-05 by Mark Lerman

Mike, K4gmh, has successfully converted a Dell 1720 laser printer for
direct laser printing of toner on PCBs. This printer appears to be
essentially the same as the Lexmark E250. The conversion is a bit
more involved than the E260, but very doable.

Hi Mark,

Anymore information on this would be useful.

I have a Lexmark E232 on the way, which i believe is similar, thus would like to manipulate it for DLP of PCBs.

Any advice regarding would be welcome.

 Regards.

I don't know anything re the E232, but if you have a service manual for it I'd be happy to take a look.

In just eyeballing it, it looks a lot like the E250, which does work. I'll see if I can find a manual for it.

Got the service manual. It looks like it should work, but the "devil is in the details." When you get started, let me know, and I'll be happy to give you advice. From what I can see, it has the same sensors as the E260, and they are located in the same places. The big complication may be the feed mechanism. I probably won't have time to really look at it till Friday.

Hi Mark,

Appreciate your input. Don't worry to much about 'time to view' etc, i'm still waiting for the ebay seller to send the bloody thing. This has been my main reason for asking questions, as i don't have it in front of me. Once i have it, most thing should make sense.

Darren.

There's a guy on ebay who has over 50 of the E232s. He's got them up for prices all over the place, some $45 with free shipping, some for $58.00 shipping alone. He's either in New Holland PA or Yonkers NY. So if you want one, now is the time to get one.

Hi Cristian,

 Sorry for the delay.

 You can find most service manuals with a simple google search 'there not top secret', but here are a few;

This one is dedicated to Lexmark and HP.
1) http://www.marketpoint.com/market-point-home.aspx

 2) http://www.altra.de/manuals/Lexmark%20E23X-E33X-4505.pdf

3) http://www.eserviceinfo.com/

If i recall correctly, i believe #3 is where i got the PDFs listed, that your asking about.

All above are very useful site, #3 just type any manufacturer and model #. Very Very good site.

 Darren.

I have the Lexmark E232, E250 and E260 Service manuals. If anyone wants them you can contact me and I'll be happy to email them to you.

I looked at the E232 manual, but it doesn't have enough diagrams for me to tell how hard it will be to convert.

Hi all,

For service manuals, check out this site. Quite impressive.
If your manufacturer isn't listed on the front page, don't despair, click on the alphabet @ the top or bottom.
I'm pretty sure you will find more than you wish for.

 Regards

 Darren.

Any more info? Does the same printer configuration software work with Dell as the Lexmark? Have you published the code for the microcontroller used to 'fake' the printer?

Thanks!

Not sure which printer you're referring to, but Mike successfully converted a Dell 1720. The code is published in the Instructable, but I can email it to you if you would like. I believe the printer configuration software works with the Dell. If Mike is around he can answer more fully.

The Dell specifically. I must've missed something a previous post linking to the Dell 1720 conversion as I have found his Lexmark conversion Instructable.

Pretty sure the code and setup would be the same, no? Just out of curiosity, anyone use an Arduino for the same task? ;-) I have lost of those around to use! ;-)

Thanks!
