Printer Recommendation

Printer Recommendation

2014-05-27 by dennismiller55@...

Hello everyone.  My first post here.  I have been wanting to make my own small project pcb's.  I am new to Yahoo groups and I have not figured out how to navigate these groups.  I am sure this has been asked many times but I really can not find specific printers that are recommended.  I have read that the older HP laserjets are the best but which ones.  Thanks.

Useing OEM toner is the important part. HP is the brand for success.
1200 times 1200 dpi is also important. I have used HP laser Jet 4 &
HP Laser Jet P2015dn with success. Buying one with software is also a plus.

Thanks.  It looks like the LaserJet P2015DN can be had for less than $100.  Has USB connectivity and current drivers are available at HP support.  Just what I am looking for.

Beware of one thing, the HP universal drivers, at last count, were
good for an amazing 600 DPI. Then native driver (came with the
printer when new) driver that may work on XP only, is good for 1200
DPI. No idea why HP was so stupid with this.

I have a 2015D, nice printer, but you may want to calibrate the paper
feed a bit, it may be off.

A trip to Pulsar Pro web site solved that problem by sending me to a site
where I downloaded a program called LJConfig. Now I can set resolution,
and dpi without software. The HP site solved the driver problem for my latest pinter a HP Laser Jet P2015dn. This is a good solution rather than buying new. It needs LJConfig thou to work. It prints real good on orient A4 size toner transfer paper.

Another HP which is great is the HP2100 (obsolete now), I had one and
ended giving it to my son and bought a HP2015dn as a replacement, no
problems with it either.

Looks like the LJ P2015dn is popular here.  I am watching a few of them on eBay now.  I found and downloaded the LJConfig utility program.  Thanks....

That printer is a good buy. Buy only OEM for toner and positive developement
type boards. Refurbished toner cartridge ink different than OEM. Does not adhere properly. Good luck Kevin

My mistake it should be LJConfigure to get 1200dpi times 1200dpi if printer has that capability. I found it in a web site that a link from Pulsar Pro web site directed me to. If you cannot find let me know for a link and I will search for you. Kevin

Well I finally got around to picking up a used HP2015dn printer.  I was looking forward to experimenting with making some boards.  Unfortunately the printer is not working.  An online search reveals that this printer has a history of cold solder joints on the formatter pcb.  There is a DIY fix that I am going to try.  Using a household oven as a solder re-flow oven.  I can also buy a new board or refurbished board.  Anyone else experience this problem with their HP2015 printer?

I have that printer but am unsure what you need. I have a freeware program to get it to print 1200 times 1200 dpi called LJConfigure. I can help if you need that program. It works good for myself. Kevin

I've seen that exact problem with HP 3005 series printers. I found several posts by people who fixed their formatter boards by baking them. Good luck and let us know how it works out?

Baking the formatter board in the oven was successful.  My printer in now functional.

I installed the LjConfigure utility. Using this utility, I believe I have properly set the printer for 1200dpi.

Question:  Do I need to run this utility each time I use the printer?  Or does this permanently set the printer for 1200dpi?

I plan to use the photo resist boards from MG Chemicals to make my first boards.  I have ordered a Genuine HP Toner cartridge as suggested.  I also need to pickup "transparency sheets" suitable for laser printers.

Question:  Any recommendations on manufactures of transparency products?  Are some better than others?
