Filling dye ink cartridges with pigment ink

Filling dye ink cartridges with pigment ink

2013-11-12 by <beefyzee@...>

I've got a Canon Pixma IP1900 printer with an empty colour cartridge.

In this printer the black cartridge has a pigment ink whereas the colour cartridge has dye ink.

Does anyone know if filling the colour cartridges with the black pigment ink will damage the print heads. I don't know if the colour (dye) print heads are different to the black (pigment) print head.

The reason for this is I seem to be hearing that pigment inks have much better UV blocking characteristics, and they are also more opaque than black dye prints.

Keith.

It should be ok. I haven't heard of any problem. I have not tried it
though. It says ok here:

Thanks Russell,

well looks like for now I won't get to try it out. The printheads were leaking like a sieve so the printers in the bin LOL.

I got my epson stylus 400 printer (i use only for PCBs) in 1995.
I've unclogged the head a few times either by putting in a cartridge
filled with Nifty cleaner, or pulling out the head and wiping it with a
paper towel soaked with nifty, or putting the head in an ultrasonic cleaner.

Other brands of printer have the print head in the cartridge iirc.

Some of the low end canon and HP have the head

integrated into the disposable cartidge.

The higher end devices that are cheaper to run have

just an ink tank and a permanent print head in the

printer.
