Printer Setup

2013-10-08 by Jack Schmidling

I see all sorts of statements about printing with the highest density
possible but see nothing in the setup for the HP P1006 Laser Jet that
allows any such settings. The only option I see is Econo Mode which is
going the wrong way.

Someone suggested the transparency paper mode but nothing to back this up.

Any ideas?

If you don't have a front panel, then the only setting options are in
the driver. HP's latest driver is a unified "works well for none,
ignores capabilities for all" type of driver.

I have a laser printer, HP 2100, which has a useful driver that works
on XP (and is old, and does 1200 DPI and has contrast control). The
windows 7 or 8 driver limits me to 600 DPI and has no contrast control
IIRC.

I'm using the HP1006 printer under XP - using the standard HP printer driver, look in Control Panel (depending on your OS, it might be something else), click on "Printer Preferences", and on the "Paper/Quality" tab, in the lower right section, there should be a "Print Quality" selection - there it should have "FastRes 1200", or 600dpi, with a check box below that says "EconoMode" option.

Mine has 600/1200 DPI choice but it's not clear what that has to do
with density and you did not say which I could use.

Also, what about the paper type? What do those mean or how effect density?

1200 dpi will put on twice as much toner as 600 dpi.
and make sure the econo mode is off.
I made a custom setting called TonerTranfer that sets the above so I don’t have to remember.
also made one called TonerTransferMirror for printing top copper and silk screen in PXBExpress.
