Mektronics in Sydney .au: source of 0.8mm copper-clad FR4

Mektronics in Sydney .au: source of 0.8mm copper-clad FR4

2013-02-20 by Robin Whittle

There's a source of M. G. Chemicals single and double-sided copper clad
FR4 material in Australia, including 0.8mm double-sided material.

I recently bought some items from a company I was only dimly aware of:

http://mektronics.com.au

I was looking for an obscure but highly useful lubricant I know as
"Super Lube ", a name it shares with many other products. This is a
"synthetic" lubricant with PTFE (Teflon) in a 7ml pack. My last pack, I
recall, was made by Loctite, but this one 51010 is made by Synco:

Mektronic's web-shop has ridiculously long URLs which I won't repeat here.

I also found some "1mm" (actually 0.8mm) AKA "1/32 inch" double-sided
copper clad FR4 PCB material. This is from M.G. Chemicals in the USA.
I bought the 300 x 300mm size. This is MG591 with "1 ounce" copper:

These and other PCB boards, some of them already coated with what I
assume is a positive photoresist, are in the "Prototyping" section.

They have huge range of soldering tools and supplies and general
electronic and mechanical tools.

I couldn't use their shopping cart system at all with Firefox or Google
Chrome. When I was able to add items to it with MSIE, attempting to
check out cleared the cart. I assume these problems will be fixed soon.
I placed my order by phone with the Syndey office. They also have
branches in Melbourne and Adelaide.

The items arrived with a hefty, beautifully illustrated, 600 page
Mektronics 2011 catalogue.

I was happy to find a local source for this material, which found tricky
to find in general. The ex GST cost was AUD$29.37 plus $15 shipping.

Wow - It amazes me every time I see a company
with worse prices than radio spaces. When I
was younger we used to joke about RS being
the dearest place in the world.

Also if you prefer Kinsten over MG chemicals
and live in OZ then there are 3 options since
computronics shut up shop

Good luck trying to buy from Wiltronics. Last couple of times I've tried
their cart was broken - checkout dumps you into PayPal's test area.

I emailed them a couple of times about it, even rang them; got no response.
I'm always astonished at companies who avoid people trying to give them
money.
