Homebrew PCBs

Hi terramir here,
I've been doing etching with hcl (the safer stuff home depot) and hydrogen peroxide (sad to say only the 3% stuff from the grocery store.
and as etch resist using toner transfer with HP photo paper and a brother hl5240 with a generic toner cart. and a run of the mill iron.
Anyways Just wanted to intro myself to the group, today I'm actually going to try to find parchment paper since I saw online that it can work better and it could also be used for photoresist.
Well I bought 100 uv led's but as of yet have not etched the circuit board to make that happen.
well anyways hope to learn alot in this group, and well I saw something today some peeps were using black matt spray paint and a laser cutter I wonder how much powerful of a laser it would take ( i build reprap's so I could build a bot for that) to distroy a thin layer of paint so I could etch have etch resist that way.

Hello Terramir,

Welcome to the group.  When making PCBs at home, I use drafting paper
and UV LEDs:

Works very well, 8mil features not a problem.  But next time, I'm
definitely using a spoonful of concentrated ferric chloride and a
sponge.

I tried toner transfer, but couldn't get reliable adhesion.

Actually, the recipes using the stronger peroxide also require you to add distilled water. Brick cleaner HCl with 3% grocery store peroxide just doesn't need the water added.

So how are you using it? The mixture is supposed to turn into CuCl and be reusable by simply bubbling air through it, or adding peroxide (not as good because you keep watering it down).

In fact, it doesn't turn into CuCl until you've etched some boards or added copper by tossing some copper wire into it and letting it dissolve.

Adam Seychell's website on CuCl etchant is kind of the gold (copper?) standard in instructions on care and feeding of CuCl etching:

etching works albeit at times it takes, forever and a day (so to speak), my
problem is more on the transfer side of things it's a royal pita.
