Old FeCl3 Still Good?

Old FeCl3 Still Good?

2012-11-18 by mark@ka6wke.net

I have about 2 gallons of the stuff that's been stored in the dark for about 10 years. Wondering if it's still good? By dark I mean in a closed cabinet inside the hazmat shipping box.

Thanks Mark

It should be OK.

The only way you will really know is to just try it out and see. If it doesn't work, get some more. If it does, great!

It will be ok, except some solids may have settled out making it less potent.

The way to fix that (as i did with mine) is shake the bottle well and make sure
all solids are dispersed.

Then when you put some into an etching tank, add some HCl acid and it will
properly disolve any solids. You coud add the acid to the bulk container too.

Add more acid every few months, and keep the tank covered when not in use.
Stray HCl fumes corrodes metals near the tank.
