Homebrew PCBs

When printing a gerber file (white on black) I have noticed a problem.

Narrow spaced between traces become much narrower when printing. My test file has two pairs of traces with 10 mil spacing which are printed correctly. It also has a pair with 6 mil spacing and one pair with 5 mil spacing, those become significantly narrower when printing. It is not just rounding to the closest pixel, the error is much larger than that.

The problem is exactly the same when printing to an actual printer (Epson Acculaser) and to a PDF generator (CutePDF).

I tried setting the resolution to 4000dpi in both Viewmate and CutePDF, this reduced the problemsomewhat, but it was still there.

I have tested this on two different computers (both with Windows 7 64bit) with the same result. 

Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone have a solution for this problem?

I have a CutePDF also and need to know how you adjust it like this E-Mail if it is not a off-topic question and against the rules plese advise if it is and I will comply? Thank you Kevin  (dpi ect.) I do traces in Gimp, ExpressPCB & Eagle
Freeware and need assistance due to simular problems and to be sure of trace size ect.

When the CutePDF print dialog opens you can click on advanced and then dpi will be one of the options.
