Which program/s can "Tile" PCB's

Which program/s can "Tile" PCB's

2003-10-14 by Dean Batute

Hello all,
I've enjoyed following along with all the conversations about
PCB design software. I'm getting close to being ready to transfer all
my hand drawn designs into the PC and was wondering if any of you
know which (if any) of the software packages have the ability to TILE
PCB's. I have a few Sub-Modules that are just under 1.5" square and
I'd like to tile them 2 wide by 4 high making a board rounghly 3" X
6" in total. The remainder of my boards are 1" multiples of 6" long
so this would work out perfectly. I'm hoping to eventually take the
files to a local PCB manufacturer to be professionaly done.

Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated.
All the best....Dean.

I think the term is pallatize. same board, rubberstamped on the
pcb. most houses frown on that as people try to make one small board
and do that to save space and cut out profits.

QCad will do this the 'hard' way which is to say to create a board
using a pad for the inputs of power and hard tracing all lines to
that. Cannot use just a common Vcc or all the part will be connected.

Then make one good unit, and then just copy and paste it in the
schematic.

QCad can also do this in the handroute secton Files>replicate.

Hi, the right word is panelize and if you got a decent pcb house they
will do it for yua

Hey, at least I got the word to start with a 'p' !

I was referring to the houses that offer 3 boards up to 144 sq inches
for $99.00. it is 3 seperate boards, not 3 boards 12" x 12" with as
many smaller boards as you can fit.

But some houses offer to panelize for you if you like.

I think that most packages should be able to do this. Pulsonix, which I use,
has an option when generating Gerber files to 'step and repeat'.

Even if the software does not do step and repeat as such, you can copy/paste
to create multiple copies of a board.

However, most PCB suppliers prefer to do this themselves
