Inexpensive Heat Toner Transfer Paper

Inexpensive Heat Toner Transfer Paper

2011-06-11 by Ivan Cousins

Has anyone tried this this inexpensive Heat Toner Transfer Paper?

Heat Toner Transfer Paper 10 Sheets
eBay 250583515106
or the
Heat Toner Transfer Paper 50 Sheets

I am wondering if it would be worth ordering some?

I have no affiliation with the seller.

Well, I've not tried it, but at 50 cents/sht (shipping included) it's not any cheaper than the Pulsar paper when ordered from Digikey.com - and we KNOW the Pulsar paper works - that looks like it might be the presentation paper that works so good?

Pulsar just falls off after transfer when held under running water.

Pulsar is 15.00 (roughly) per 15 sheets. 1.00 per sheet plus shipping.

I use lots of it, and the company refuses to sell it in larger
lots....

I'd love to buy it for 50 cents a sheet. How?

I stand corrected - you are correct, the cost of Pulsar is $1/sheet. See link: http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=182-1003-ND

That is $13.80, plus about $4 shipping - that's $18/box of 15 sheets, or $1.25/sht. By cutting the sheets into size I need, and using each paper several times. After toner transfer, let dry flat and it works just fine for the 3 & 4th time.

Do you use each sheet multi times?

I generally don't use the paper more than once. I do cut to size, use
a laser label as "glue, and the usual of highest toner density, etc.

I probably *could*, but cutting the sheet to size seems inexpensive
enough.

Laminator (mine) 8x, green foil 2x. Seems to work. I use two boards,
then epoxy them together (use map pins). Mirror and rotate so that
the alignment of the board sides match and the errors in the laser
printer seem to more even out than not.

Give this a try: Staples Item# 633215 32# Color Laser Paper 300 sheets $11.49 + tax. It's the best value I've found, separates easily and cleanly in cold water. It's coated on both sides and feels like magazine paper except heavier. I think it is as good as the Pulsar TT paper at a fraction of the price, but I doubt that it's re-useable...but at less than $0.04 per sheet, why would you want to?

That is good paper, but doesn't just "fall off" the board the way Pulsar paper does. I certainly feel the results are just as good as with Pulsar - and depending on my mood, that might be what I use when this first pack of Pulsar runs out. I've got a pack of the Staples - and that's a LOT of toner transfer, nor would I even consider trying to reuse the Staples paper.

I am sorry to bring this old topic up from the dead, but I wanted to know how this paper would compare against the "Hammermill	Color Laser Gloss"

Re: Inexpensive Heat Toner Transfer Paper

I can't answer about how it compares to the Hammermill paper but I can say after using several other brands, Kinko's, Office Depot, etc, as well as the Pulsar paper, that, as the previous poster said, it doesn't "fall off" as well as the Pulsar, if the toner is heavy enough on the paper it falls off in one piece with little residue remaining behind. Additionally, I believe that the toner transfer is actually better, or at least as good as the Pulsar. I am able to get 7-8 mill tracks with 7-8 mill spacing repeatedly with very few track wash outs. The key seems to be getting a really dark print. The way I have been doing this is to print the pcb from Eagle to my color HP laserjet, in black of course, then using a copier to get it onto the staples transfer paper. I just noticed that on a 2 sided board I made a couple days ago that one side printed a little lighter on the HP...must be running low on toner...and the Staples paper didn't wash off the board as cleanly on that side.

One additional comment/observation: the pulsar paper stretches in the long direction. This is not a real problem unless you are doing double sided boards and using a mill or router to drill the holes, like I am doing. On a board more than a couple inches long the stretch is too much for fine pitched work. The Staples paper doesn't seem to stretch as much, if at all.

Good luck, and if you try the Hammermill let us know how it works.

Hi Terry,

Thanks for your feedback!

1. To confirm, were you talking about this paper http://www.staples.com/office/supplies/StaplesProductDisplay?&storeId=10001&catalogId=10051&partNumber=633215

2. You seem to notice that it transfers much better than the Pulsar paper?

3. This paper however, might need to be soaked longer, but does come off in once piece leaving behind minimal residue?

I had made one more post today including a Staples offer that had more information : maybe it will take some more time to appear on this group.

Re: Inexpensive Heat Toner Transfer Paper

1. Yes, that's the one.
2. I wouldn't say "much better" but almost, or 'as' well, if the toner is heavy enough. And, once it has transferred the tracks don't seem to 'wash off' as easily as the Pulsar.
3. Also, if the toner is heavy enough, at least for me, it comes off in one piece (to flimsy to reuse) and leaves minimal residue. It does leave some residue, which the Pulsar does not, but it doesn't seem to be enough to interfere with etching.

and 4. Best of all, it doesn't seem to stretch as much as the Pulsar so automated drilling can be used.
