Could be... But I got similar result with too old. I use 'spam'
commercials paper from local store. If I use fresh one it' was perfect
but if same paper lye in the shlef few months all the collor are
transfered with tonner. I guess some coating are detoriated and make
that paper unusable for TT after some time.

More likely a different magazine paper. Have you changed anything in the process otherwise?

Donald.

Probably not clay coated.

You want the glossy stuff. Some magazines use 'better' paper, use something like for women's fashion, not the local cattle auction.

Give your location and someone can probably recommend what magazine to buy.

I'm in Chicagoland. It's the same magazines I've always used...Elektor and
Circuit Cellar. Actually this one was with Circuit Cellar. I wonder if they
changed something?

They may have gone to uncoated or a lesser quality paper to save money.
Might have changed ink formulations too. Older inks used to transfer
easily, eg newsprint, buy even that stopped after they went to soya-based
inks.

The coating is a clay called kaolin, Google brought up a few articles about
recent price rises of 5%-10%, so they may have switched stock.

You could measure that page thickness (paper is about 0.1mm (say 4 thou)) or
compare weights between and old & new magazine.

Moisture in the paper maybe? You'd think running it thru the laser would
dry it out (I run the paper thru before printing as it can shrink).

I've had that with some inks too. Wiping it down with citrus cleaner takes the ink right off but leaves the toner. I forget what the stuff I have is called but it's orange liquid made by Zep.
