Test Targets

Test Targets

2011-05-01 by Boman33

With all this ongoing work on testing printers and procedures, I added a
Test Target for PCB traces to my old US Air Force 1951 standard test target.

All the targets are in vector format so there is no graphic distortion. The
PCB one also has the Gerber file included. You can find the info and the
downloads at:

http://www.vinland.com/USAF-1951.html

The FTP works fine and so does clicking on the .DWG file. Clicking on the
.DXF file or .GTO does not work. The files are on the server but I do not
know if the limitation is in the browser or in the web server. Please let
me know if you have any suggestions how to fix that part.

Hi Betho,
Thankyou for sharing with the group. The test image is a good one. It shows that my printer does much better horizontally than vertically.

I processed your Gerber file into a Tiff at 1000 dpi and printed it with Innovue to a file. I looks like it is being printed at 360 dpi.

I Tried another image printing program yesterday called 'Irfanview' which also prints at 360 dpi. So I still don't have anything that can do a better job of printing.

Bob

IIRC Stouffer (the step gauge people) also have a resolution test gauge,
which is (in theory) a "perfect" pattern to test UV exposure resolution
with.

Also, a while back I did a set of "spiral challenge" patterns:

      http://www.delorie.com/pcb/spirals/

Adam's idea was that it's easy to do one or two traces at a given size,
but you can't say you can do that size unless you can do it reliably -
like a 4cm square spiral. These patterns let you test for a LOT of
trace length, both for shorts and opens.

DJ,

The spiral patterns are very nice to qualify the process once a track &
space has been preliminary selected.

I saved your link if I happen to need it in the future.

Thanks for taking the time to create the patterns and the detailed data on
the website.

You're welcome! Let us know if you succeed at any :-)
