Are there any web based PCB design tools? Reason for asking .. is I like to work on simple boards at work when things are quiet and I'm in "fireman mode" waiting for something to happen .. to go take care of .. Randy

I've never heard of any (can't imagine the demand is very high) but I think you should be able to run KiCAD from a USB flash drive... --- In Homebrew_PCBs@yahoogroups.com, "RJ" <rj3819@...> wrote:

> Are there any web based PCB design tools? Hi Randy I've used the free version of DipTrace for several years now, and find it to be excellent. http://www.diptrace.com/download.php When I read your mail I grabbed an old flash memory stick and installed the programme on it. It works perfectly on the family Internet PC, my ASUS AMD Notebook and even my wife's EEEPC Web-book It will probably do what you want, and you have the advantage that you always have your design with you. You can run DipTrace from a Flash drive. The free version is limited to 300 pins. Just install on your home computer, and copy the DipTrace program directory to a Flash drive. The link is in the Links section, PCB_Schematic_CAD_Programs folder with links to a lot more PCB and schematic capture tools. Yahoogroups won't let me post a permanent link to a folder there. http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/Homebrew_PCBs/links Steve Greenfield --- In Homebrew_PCBs@yahoogroups.com, "RJ" <rj3819@...> wrote:

Thanks everyone .. The problem is that its a government computer. And there are many restrictions .. one of which, currently is no USB drives.. the other is in order to have a piece of software installed / used it has to have a CTO or Certificate to Operate . So my only option is to run it via ( no pun intended ) a website .. Thought maybe PCB manufacturing sites might offer it.. as a way to get you to have them manufacture the boards. Not found any like that .. Thanks again for the inputs .. Randy - N2CUA --- In Homebrew_PCBs@yahoogroups.com, "chris.burkill" <chris.burkill@...> wrote:

HI, Just a thought: Why don't you install on another machine and remote in via the web to control the other machine? Have dealt with government depts before and this worked well for me. //Andy On 30 April 2011 16:50, RJ <rj3819@...> wrote: > > > Thanks everyone .. > The problem is that its a government computer. > And there are many restrictions .. > one of which, currently is no USB drives.. > the other is in order to have a piece of software > installed / used it has to have a CTO or Certificate to Operate . > So my only option is to run it via ( no pun intended ) a website .. > Thought maybe PCB manufacturing sites might offer it.. > as a way to get you to have them manufacture the boards. > Not found any like that .. > Thanks again for the inputs .. > > Randy - N2CUA > > > --- In Homebrew_PCBs@yahoogroups.com, "chris.burkill" <chris.burkill@...> > wrote: > > > > > Are there any web based PCB design tools? > > > > Hi Randy > > > > I've used the free version of DipTrace for several years now, and find > > it to be excellent. > > > > > > http://www.diptrace.com/download.php > > > > > > When I read your mail I grabbed an old flash memory stick and installed > > the programme on it. > > > > It works perfectly on the family Internet PC, my ASUS AMD Notebook and > > even my wife's EEEPC Web-book > > > > It will probably do what you want, and you have the advantage that you > > always have your design with you. > > > > Cheers Chris > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] > > > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Can I do that on commonly used ports? It has to transverse 2 firewalls. --- In Homebrew_PCBs@yahoogroups.com, Andrew Thornber <andrew.thornber@...> wrote:

I use logmein.com to access my home PCs from work and other locations. We also have two firewalls and an authenticated proxy and we rigidly block non-standard ports. This means we break many so called "web applications" that try and do things like remote desktop access over port 443 which is meant for https. It does require an active-x control but then any web based PCB designer is going to need either an active-x control, or JAVA or FLASH. Dave G4UGM
