Melting temperatures of toner

Melting temperatures of toner

2010-11-03 by tda7000

Does anyone know the temperatures that different brands of toner melt at?

I managed to make transfer work with an iron, but the toner spread out a bit (doesn't help my iron doesn't have numbers printed on the dial)

Tried with a modified GBC laminator (approx 170 Degrees C) but couldn't get the toner to stick at all.

I am using a Lexmark T522 printer and I'm guessing I need a higher temperature on my laminator - but - what temperature?

Does anyone know?

Hi TDA,

I also have a Lexmark (E210), and a GBC laminator
(http://www.presentationsdirect.com/gbc-heatseal-9-creative-pouch-laminator.html)
and it's working very well.

I have posted some pictures of the results there:

jmspaggi).

Have you cleaned your board correctly? I'm using Vim (Cif) for that. I
clean it at least 3 times, then some acetone. Also, your board need to
be thick enought. I tryied with thin boards, and I had to add another
board below to be sure there is enought pressure on the laminator.

When I did my laminator hack, I tested a couple of toners. HP melts
around 170C (340F) and the high-temp Brother around 187C (370F). I've
yet to take the time to truly characterize the HP toner though - toners
have two interesting temperatures, the one where they become plastic and
sticky (good) and the higher one where they actually turn liquid (bad).
You want something between those :-)
