new ways to make a pcb

2003-08-27 by David Adrian

Hello everybody!
From a short time i started to make some tests with the new way to realize a pcb.
That way is to draw the schematic with a special program, like Protel, and print on a laser paper. After that to apply the paper with toner over the pcb and heat the paper, usualy the iron clothes.
I tryed until now with usual paper becose i don't have enough money to buy special paper and the results are deplorable.
If anyone can to help me with more information please write me.
Thank you!

Hi David,

One of the guys in this list mentioned using magazine pages. the
shiny paper is made with bits of clay so it will not let teh toner
sink in too deep.

the less color printing on the page, the better as large sections of
colors will bubble from the heat.

Also go to the yahoo group on the web page and look in the files,
photos and links for more information.

Dave

Try using the shiny paper from glossy magazines. After ironing the pattern
on you need to soak the paper off in warm water with a little detergent.
This works quite well.

A few tips and tricks for using toner transfer paper can be found in a .pdf
on my projects page.

http://users.rcn.com/carlott/projects.html

I've found EPSON gloss photo paper makes pretty good boards. While not
as cheap as magazine pages, it is certainly cheaper then the dedicated
stuff, (and maybe easier to find)

Actually I found that a light color background actually works
slightly better than straight black and white pages. The toner seems
to embed itself slightly less into the paper and as a result the
paper backing comes off leaving less pulp in denser toner areas. I
use a laminator so I haven't noticed any bubbling like that. If the
paper has been setting around for a while (soaking up moisture)
sometimes it can react differently. Most of the time I use fresh
trade magazines that they keep sending me, so they haven't been on my
desk long...

Sorry to interject; I've just had a couple of people ask me about the
magazine stock I've been using the last couple of days.
