you know i have ben soldering for 25+ years and get
asked the same questions over and over the main answer
is practice practice practice second answer is put a
small amount of solder on the tip clean it put the tip
on the oposit side so the solder flows in and around
the joint to the tip of the iron then lift strait up
never put the solder directly to the iron
it just makes a blob and a cold joint finely the
whole thing comes down to practice good luck

There you go.

I find with a cheap iron, and a dirty tip, the parts never got hot
enought to get the solder to flow. a little solder on the tip and
that 'wets' the part allowing heat transfer and then putting solder
on the far side of the part does the rest.

Soldering 12 ga wire is where the odd method comes in with my iron.
for boards, the method is just like you mentioned.

if solder does not flow, clean the tip.

I am looking for some side work in soldering. I now have an esd station at home. I am IPC610 and j-std quilified, lead and leadfree. I am looking to do small quantities and less than 100 parts count, ballpark. I can do as small at 0201 chips, QFP's. No BGA's or QFN's! Give me your details and I will give you a price.

This is true. you need to put a 'small' amount of solder on your tip. it creates a heat bridge. A 'dry' tip is a poor conductor of heat and may damage the board spending too much time there.

Still looking for some side work in soldering proto boards. Small quantities.

I am certified IPC-610/J-standards class 3, trace/pad replacement and substrate repair. I have worked for 5 years in a professional board house doing rework on various boards, from consumer to military boards. I can solder 0201 chips and QFP's without a stereo scope.

At this time I am unable to do QFN's or BGA's.

As of now I do not have anymore time for new work. Thank you for all your replys.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
