[Homebrew_PCBs] DLP Update

2010-05-10 by Mark Lerman

For those interested in this thread I have just posted the complete
pdf detailing the modification of a Lexmark E260 printer to do direct
laser printing. It is posted in the files section of the group along
with a pointer to the accompanying pictures at
<http://www.pbase.com/mark10970> .

The new greatly simplified controller works. It will also enable
experimenting with ds boards. Here is a link to a panel I just made
of 4 of the new mcu boards. The minor smudging at the bottom of the
board is an artifact - The toner was printed slightly on the tape
holding the board to the carrier. The traces are 10 mil wide. I will
post the new schematic in the next day or so.

Mark, that is VERY impressive PCB photo you just posted - running two traces between pads is neat - I have done it, but normally like to stay with only a single trace between pads. I'm impressed!! GREAT WORK!!

You mention a pdf file? I didn't see a link to the pdf - the mod is nicely laid out in the webpages and photos.... did I miss the pdf somewhere?

The full mod description in the Homebrfew_pcbs file section in the
Direct Laser Printing folder as a pdf.

In your post was written very clearly: "posted in the files section of the group" - I need to learn to read carefully!!

Thank you,

I've just uploaded the simple mcu schematic - just an ATtiny13, a
resistor, a diode, and a bypass cap. Add an external switch for
single sided boards or an optical sensor for double sided boards. The
biggest problem was finding a good 5 volt supply! I finally realized
that the Centronics parallel printer port has a 5 volt supply pin
that is guaranteed for 50 ma. Perfect!

Hello, Mark.

Thank you for the great documentation and the fine pictures. I can only hope mine turn out as well.

Donald.

[Homebrew_PCBs] DLP Update

2010-05-27 by Mark Lerman

I will be finishing this up by next week. I'd like to consolidate all
the data and remove any out of date schematics and pdfs and replace
them with more up to date ones. The schematic is now finalized and
allows for either a simple switch or an optical sensor to be used.
The switch is simpler and is perfectly adequate for single sided
boards, but the sensor is necessary to do double sided ones. The same
software and board is used for both versions - the default is the
sensor, but just hold the switch closed for a few seconds when
powering up the printer to indicate the switch software.

I will be ordering a few parts from Digikey in the few days, so
anyone who wants a board should ask for one now. All the electronic
parts are from Digikey - I will make a BOM available with all parts
required. I can also provide you with a reflective sensor - if you
want one, ask for it now. The sensor is on a little board I had made
several months ago using a cnc router - I'll see if I can find the
Eagle.brd and post it as well, but these boards are really pretty trivial.

I hope to do some ds boards soon and get them online, but my wife
wants to drag me off to the (Jersey) shore for the weekend, so I'm
not sure when I'll get to it.
