Winboard pcb layout vs. Dell 1720 laser printer

Winboard pcb layout vs. Dell 1720 laser printer

2010-01-19 by grantfair2001

I can't print any of my many PCB layouts with my new printer.

I have a lot of PCBs laid out with Winboard 2.25. (The company selling it went out of business years ago). My old laser printer died so I bought a Dell 1720. It won't run on any software older than WIN2000.

I am running XP on a couple of my computers. Winboard is running under WIN95 on some old computers. Winboard does not run under XP.

(Someone loaded a patch for Winboard 2.25 to make it 2.27 to a public website. I haven't been able to get it to install).

SO I can't print any of my layouts.

Does anyone know of other PCB software which could read the Winboard PCB files and runs under XP, so I could print them?

Any other solutions?

Thanks

print to pdf or even post script on the old machine, load on XP and print out.

It used to be possible to use the "wrong" driver via LPT. Just install
any similar printer and it might just work. Not an option over USB.

And for WinDraft too.

I have many old projects and can't print them out. My old system died
and when I tried to install on a win98 system it said that the Key was
out of date. I tried every Key that they sent me too.

Thanks

The only thing worse than the Ivex programs was their support. All very shoddy, and very frustrating.

Did you try this site?

There they have the CD Ivex flogged as it went out of business, including some registration codes.

http://www.box.net/shared/ky83sl8o4g

It says you have to download all the files into one directory before you use RAR to extract them.

Maybe it will help.

Print to pdf (pdf995 is one product) then print that to the Dell.

I use to run Winboard on a XP machine. Was not even installed on the machine. I had the old drive from the old computer in a external drive case connected to USB on the XP machine. Go to the Ivex Dir. Winboard then double click on the winboard start file and it would come up and run. Would get a error when you try to close it.

Don't recall the version # but should have been their last version. I just tried to connect up this old drive it seems to have died.

Anyway try copying the Ivex Dir from the old computer to your XP machine and see if it will run.

Ben

Thanks. Apparently from posts on the net, Winboard 2.27 works with XP. I have made some progress with downloading related fi;es and may get it to install, I need time to try things. If that fails, I will try your suggestion.

I went to
http://www.box.net/shared/ky83sl8o4g#

Down loaded the files and installed them on my XP system. Now I can
print out my old drawings.

I got Winboard working on my XP computer and can print my layouts on the new printer. Time to warm up the laminator!

Thanks to everyone for the good responses; Bob I'm glad the same fix worked for you

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
