Eagle part placement crosshairs,, help!!!

Eagle part placement crosshairs,, help!!!

2007-07-14 by timbomcnuckle

Sorry for the dramatic title(!!!) but I am having a bummer problem
that is holding me up and definitely stupid.

Is there a way to get rid of the tiny 'crosshairs' that automatically
are placed when one uses a lib part under Eagle? They are causing my
printed layouts to have an unwanted 'trace'- which I imagine would be
lost in etching but don't want to take the chance. The part itself is
obviously very small else I wouldn't be having this issue, but here I am.

 - rather small package DFN10, so difficult to proto. I made a small
'breakout' board to pin the device out to a DIL10. These 'crosshairs'
are only showing one very small amount of a line but comes very close
to shorting the VCC to GND.

I'm also noticing a lot of other small errors in the layout when it
is this small and printed (to a file or paper), but I guess that is
the price to pay for DIY?

Anyone know how I can get rid of the placement crosshair? Just print
the layout under the lib editor?

You need to go into View -> Display/Hide Layers, then turn off the tOrigins
and bOrigins layers.

DFN10 is well within the capabilities of toner transfer. I have some
0.5mm pitch SMT connectors I've done adapter boards for, they work
just fine, so there's no "price to pay for DIY". I've done down to
01005 SMT caps and VQFP (0.4mm pitch) ICs with DIY TT.

If Eagle can't print you a usable postscript output, perhaps you need
to export gerbers from Eagle, and use a gerber printing program to
print? I know PCB's postscript output is designed for TT (it even has
calibrations for non-unity X/Y printer scaling :), but that doesn't
mean Eagle's is. Or maybe you need to run a different CAM script?

Hi,
The crosshairs are on layer tOrigins and bOrigins so it's just a matter of
turning those layers off if you don't want them. If you turn off tPlace and
bPlace you'll get rid of the crosshairs and the component outlines.

/Henrik Olsson.

Thanks to all responders! I ended up finding the problem and yes it
was stupid. Too many hours in front to machine, nuf' said.

For the printed (to file or paper) res I think I'm OK, but anything
smaller I would probably need to consider the suggested method to gain
better trace 'crispness', so am going to look into the suggested
software. Thanks again, jd

Thanks for the rsponse, I managed to figure out my stupid mistake
later that day and made the correct printfile-- all fixed now! Also
gave me the chance to go back over the layout and make some much
needed ammendments. Thanks again
