HPGL or _not HPGL

HPGL or _not HPGL

2006-11-24 by Lez

Ok when I send my plotter simple things like

IN; IP 0,0,100,100; SC 0,100,0,100;
SP 1;
PA 247,353;
PD;
PA 191,297;
PA 185,297;
PA 180,302;
PA 180,308;

It works, but when I set my software to hpgl my plotter does not work,
redirecting it to a fle it looks like a mix of hpgl and gibberish like
this

[]IN;SP0;QL100ROPS10240,8000^¬RO90IP0,0,7999,10239SC0,3999,5119,0ACPA0

with lots of non-printable letters and squiggles randomly dropped in.

I guess its a different flavor of hpgl?

What the simplest most basic windows xp driver to use hpgl?

is their an hpgl1 hpgl 2 hpgl3 type revision?

Done more research, an hp7475 is hpgl/1 and NOT hpgl/2 that windows xp uses.
So I need to find a driver for hpgl1 for XP, or an xp driver for a
printer/plotter thats hpgl1 and still supported.

Here's a sample of what the Pulsonix software I use generates for one of my
PCBs:

IN;
IW0,0,2377,2498;
PA;
VS15;
SP2;
PU257,2317;
PD1984,2317;
PD1984,6;
PD257,6;
PD257,2317;
PU339,158;
PD339,158;
AA409,158,180,70;
PD479,158;
AA409,158,180,70;
PD339,158;
PU385,92;
PD433,92;
PU365,103;
PD453,103;
PU354,114;
PD464,114;
PU347,125;

No funny characters, just pure ASCII.

There must be something wrong with your PCB software.

I don't know if it helps any but SheetCam <www.sheetcam.com> will
convert DXF to HPGL. It is probably a bit overkill for the job but it
will work. Make sure you select the HPGL post processor. If you want to
experiment, go to the registration page and request a free 30 day
evaluation license.

Looks like the sw is at fault. Plotters are simple
minded beasts and evidently don't take well to 8 bit
characters. HPGL shouldn't have any of the expanded
ASCII characters in it. Can't recall whether it's case
sensitive too.
