Homebrew PCBs

I have gotten LOTSA "4 inch and narrower scrap" from  the local PC house 
(when I visit when the right ladies are on duty.  SOME  are downright stingy and 
want to CHARGE for stuff they throw out!).    But it is all "1/2 oz. copper" as 
they plate-through just about EVERYthing they  do, making the copper thicker 
all over.  I wonder:  If one orders a "2  oz. board" do they simply PLATE-ON 
more, or use thicker copper on the raw  stock?  I never asked when visiting.  I 
HAVE had bits of FR4 with  thicker than 1/2 oz., but not from the current 
source which is 30 miles closer  than the first one I "knew".  It'd be nice to 
get some 1 oz.  "scrap!"
