Thanks for your input. Hydrogen peroxide is an excellent idea to
start the production of CuCl2. The dark brown color your seeing
that doesn't go away with aeration is because there are too many
Cl(-) ions in solution (too high concentration of HCl). In such
cases, diluting with water will turn the CuCl2 complex from dark
brown/black to green, assuming there is no more CuCl remaining
after the aeration period. How long did you bubble to solution?
It can take many hours. You of course need a cover on the tank
because the bubbles make tiny splashes.
