Copier transparencies and HP LaserJet 6P?

Copier transparencies and HP LaserJet 6P?

2006-04-07 by Bob_xyz

I have just gotten the chance to pick up some transparency film
cheap. It's made for copiers but I was wondering if it can safely
run through my LaserJet 6P printer.

The film is described as: "For Plain Paper Copiers Using DRY TONER".

It's stock number 60737 and is made by a company called C-Line
Products.

The package lists hundreds of compatible copiers from 22
manufacturers. There are many A.B. Dick, Kodak, Mita, Sanyo, Sharp,
Toshiba, and Xerox models listed.

Does anybody have any experience using this type of transparency
film with a LaserJet? Any thoughts?

Regards, Bob

It will be safe to try, copiers and laser printers use a similar process.

Thanks, Stefan. I was fairly sure that the processes were somewhat
similar but was concerned that they may not be similar enough to avoid
turning my printer into a mass of melted plastic. I'd really like to
do more than 1 transparency and have the printer remain functional. :=)

laser transparencies should be fine. But with inkjet transparencies it is
taking a chance ;-)

I remember the first day i had my first laser printer, after i had cleaned
it (it was used) i tried printing on a "transparency", only this was just
a sheet of plastic not meant for laser printers. That day i learned what a
hot fuser does to that plastic, and cleaned again ;-).

Some lasers have a higher fuser temperature these days. They may cause
unsuitable transparencies to distort, but don't melt.

Laser and copier transparencies will work in LaserJets, won't work
well in inkjet printers.

I have used inkjet transparencies in an HP laser (I think it was
8xxx series), Xerox copiers, and Lexmark Optra E+ with no
melting/distortion problems. Copier output never worked well for
me, but it might have been a toner issue. Now I use my Lexmark with
a refilled toner cartridge exclusively.
