Homebrew_PCBs

Harbor Freight is having their sidwalk sale this weekend. They are
selling a small 4 inch table saw with two blades for $29.99. Regular
price is $49. The unit is less than a cubic foot in size and comes
with a diamond and toothed saw blades.

It looks good for cutting circuit board.

Bob,
I hope that's for all of their stores. How did I miss it, I seem to
get two catalogs a week from them. Since you said one of the saws is
toothed, I presume it's not just a tile saw? (not that there's
anything wrong with that, for PCB purposes).

I have that exact table saw (chicago electric). the diamond blade is
worthless for PCB. the toothed blade is just a miniature version of
full-size carbide-tipped saw blades. It cuts PCB like butter and hasn't
shown any signs of dulling after cutting numerous boards.

Being open-framed like that though, it throws dust all over, so it's not a
bad idea to tape some pieces of cardboard around it as a "skirt" to keep the
dust in check.

it doesn't come with a real fence or anything, just a little crappy guide,
but freehanding isn't too hard and perhaps you could make a fence if needed.

I tried my saw out. The saw consists of heavy cast iron castings. It
does not tilt. Depth is set by moving the table up and down a slot
with a bolt clamp. The motor is a big universal, like that seen on
old sewing machines. It winds up to 16,000 rpm. The motor armature
is the blade arbor.

My two blades were a diamond face and a metal blade with a coarse rip
type tooth. I wonder if any carbide tipped 4 inch blades are rated
for 16,000 rpm?

Did your blade have carbide tips or just steel teeth?
