Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.........

2006-01-05 by alan00463

Okay, I looked through the remainder of the posts here last night.
PHEW!!! I only read the ones that of interest to me, maybe ten or
twenty percent, and bookmarked others that may help me acquire a
particular skill when the time comes. Thanks, guys.

Sounds like a Proxxon drill grinder would be a superior rotary tool
for drilling PCBs than the more-easily acquired dremel rotary tool.
So I downloaded the Proxxon pdf catalog. I phoned the distributor to
get some leads on buying one. Now I'm searching for a U.S.
distributor on the web. I hope it's something I can afford.
Comments/suggestions welcome.

The Minicraft thing looks cool, but it's pulling a bit of a price tag
isn't it?

Looked like some were up close to 70 bucks with the xformer and only
hit 20,000rpm. It says "special motor" & "quiet". I wonder if there's
actual noise specs anywhere to look at.

I wonder how the Walmart deals came out for the other Alan?

Which Minicraft thing do you mean? The
Proxxon 28510 Micromot Drill 50/E ? It is a 40W machine. I'd
prefer the 100W IB/E (even pricier). I don't understand why these
tools come with six different sized collets. I guess a collet is
nothing like a drill chuck. Maybe somebody can explain it to me. I
guess these rotary tools are all based on the same motor controller.
They all say 5000 to 20000 rpm. Maybe the same motor too.
I am thinking I might build a levered and counterweighted "drill
press" as Stefan did.

Okay, I have cured my ignorance. After looking at this website
http://www.efunda.com/processes/machining/mill_cutters.cfm I now
know what a collet is. After looking at this website, it dawned on
me that this machine can be used for milling as well as drilling.
