Sounds complicated. But don't let me belittle your achievement, because
I know well the satisfaction of getting reliable toner transfer working
after multiple failed attempts.

Anyway, I'm getting great results from:

 1. laser-print the artwork to inkjet photo card
 2. clean board with toothpaste and a green kitchen scourer
 3. 10 passes through the laminator at maximum heat and slowest motor
 4. peel the card off the board, while still hot, in a gentle curling
    motion
