Homebrew PCBs

I am looking for a circuit diagram and schematic for a good parallel
port 3 axis stepper controller. I am just starting to get the parts
together to build a cnc drill/router. I plan on making it about 500mm
x 750mm and use a 1/4" router as the cutter/drill drive, i have a pair
of v-groove bearing slides. I have a couple of motors with gearboxes
on them and am not sure whether to use a small chain for the drive or
try to find a good thread drive, any links or files for a good start
will be appreciated.
