Dave - my local Radio Shack here in Toronto sells wire wrap wire, about 28 gauge, with a thin insulation which reasily melts away when soldered. It was on a spool about 2" in diameter. The one I have has no RS number. But perhaps it's worth checking in a store. It was on sale, it looks like they are unloading some hobbyist stuff.
