It sounds like you want to design the entire circuit from scratch . I usually don't recommend this ..but in your case you should go to radio-shack and look into getting a basic-stamp learning kit. The basic stamp is a microcontroller that should suit your purposes, and there are a LOT of forums and groups out there to provide you with circuit design help and programming support. Also check out the Parallex ( spelling ? ) web site . Do a google search on "BASIC STAMP" and "BS2P" . Hope that helps.
