Yes, and no it doesn't work. The copper apparently draws away heat to quickly, and Alps wax thermal transfers by heating the head elements. And it is -very- sensitive to the exact temperature. However... some ribbons take higher temperatures than others to transfer, for instance the metallic, metal foil, and white ribbons. So if a lower temp ribbon (like black) had a white ribbon sticker put on it, maybe it would compensate for the heat sink action of the copper.
