NICE I like it this idea.

I would give up the paper experiments though.
Toner heat transfer paper costs $10 for a hundred sheets of the yellow waxy paper
and there is zero wait and soak time.... and zero hard scrubbing to get rid of the paper.
I tossed the hot copper and paper into a dish of tap water and in less than a minute
it peeled off clean:

I had tried glossy magazine paper with great success so I would use glossy magazine paper if I ever ran out of the toner tansfer paper.
Digital thermometers are now $10 so you might want to experiment with more knowledge
of the Goldylocks temperature zone.... when the toner sticks... and what temp is too hot for the
PCB before it bubbles.
I see Kohls sells waffle irons for $20 now....... hmmmmmm.... you got me thinking I need one of these toys.

so while I was waiting for metal gears to arrive in the mail I
stumbled onto this stove top method and I already had the heavy metal and
the silicone rubber so my olny expense was the hot plate:

I am very pleased with the results.
All the time effort and money I spent on chasing laminator solutions
has not been for nothing. I learned a lot about what we wanted in
temperature and pressure.
The 6 inch square block of 1 inch steel plate plus the C clamp weighs 12 pounds. I'd call that a press.
