The luck of the Irish was with you, I've had a GBC laminator for many years with no problems, although it was modified for PCB use. It's a GBC Docuseal 95P, I wish I bought an extra one as it's not available anymore, and is easy to modify so it can handle thicker media, and go slower so one pass does the trick.
