IMO a bubble tank works really well, is cheap, easy to make, I really have few complaints. For my bubbler I bought a piece of small acrylic tube, it was under a dollar for a whole piece. I used a heat gun to soften the tip and then squished it to seal, then I used a PCB drill bit to drill a number of tiny holes down the length and lastly heated with a heat gun and bent into an L shape so the part with the holes lays across the bottom of the tank. It was cheap, easy to make, and works pretty well.
