Re:WTD: simple laminator temp control circuit

2009-12-13 by RDHeiliger

SparkFun Electronics has a control for reflow ovens that will work for laminators as well. This is a kit, you need to assemble and program. The PIC16F88 comes with a boot loader in it, so you need a "real" RS232 serial interface to load the code. For $85 it's a pretty spiffy control.

I recently upgraded to an HP P1006 printer and needed a temperature higher than an LM34 would tolerate (300 *F max). I have an AD595 thermocouple amplifier and K-type thermocouple on the way from SparkFun, so I can modify my laminator control to use the AD595, instead of the LM34. If it succeeds I will post the schematic, pcb art, and code for the control.

The AD595, according to the spec sheet can be used as a control as well. It needs an output circuit and a voltage input to set the temperature. No display tho.
