Check out the group http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/chip-hybrids/ There is some information there on wirebonders. The moderator refurbished a wire bonder and has some information posted. I have often thought about the same thing. The transducer from a sonic cleaner might work for the ultrasonic source.
